Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang laid the foundation stone for the Sikkim Global Technical University at Rong Bull GPU, Singtam, in Namchi district on Monday. The establishment of the university in a remote area is seen as a major step towards providing quality education and boosting local economic development.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Tamang expressed his delight at the initiative, stating that setting up such an institution in a rural region like Rong Bull marks a significant milestone. He emphasized that the state government is committed to establishing multiple private universities, especially in remote areas, to ensure better educational opportunities for students while also fostering economic growth.

“The presence of an esteemed university will not only empower aspiring students but also drive local development, creating job opportunities and boosting the overall economy. As educational infrastructure strengthens, the transformation of the area will follow naturally,” Tamang said.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the steady progress of Namchi, noting that the region is witnessing various developmental projects aimed at enhancing growth and prosperity. He congratulated all those involved in the initiative and expressed hope that the university would nurture bright minds, helping students achieve their dreams while contributing to Sikkim’s progress.
