Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang met Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi on June 18. The meeting was marked by a warm exchange of thoughts and a gesture of appreciation as the Chief Minister presented specially curated commemorative items celebrating Sikkim's 50 years of statehood.
CM Tamang shared that it was an honour to meet the Vice President and have a meaningful conversation. As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Chief Minister handed over a souvenir set to the Vice President. The set included a ₹50 silver coin and a specially issued postage stamp. Both were released earlier this year as part of the events marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim joining the Indian Union in 1975.
“I had the privilege of presenting him with a commemorative souvenir, a ₹50 silver coin, and a specially issued postage stamp, all launched to mark the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood,” said CM Tamang in a statement.
During the meeting, CM Tamang also extended a formal invitation to Vice President Dhankhar to visit Sikkim. He expressed hope that the Vice President would address the state’s legislators and students. The aim, according to Tamang, is to give young people and public representatives in Sikkim the opportunity to hear from a national leader and learn from his experience and knowledge.
“I requested Hon’ble Vice President Dhankhar Ji to visit our state and address our legislators and students, sharing his insights and experiences with our community,” Tamang added.
