Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said that during his meeting with the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare,Shivraj Singh Chouhan, he invited the Minister to take part in the year-long celebrations of Sikkim’s 50 years of statehood. The Minister accepted the invitation with gratitude.

The discussion between the two leaders focused mainly on improving agriculture in Sikkim. The Chief Minister shared concerns about the challenges faced by cardamom farmers, especially the plant diseases that have been lowering the crop yield. He stressed the need for scientific support and better methods to help farmers grow healthier cardamom.

In addition to farming, Chief Minister Tamang asked for help to improve rural roads in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). He pointed out that better roads are very important for farmers as they help in moving goods to the markets more easily and improve the overall well-being of rural communities.

Responding to these requests, Union Minister Chouhan promised to send a team of experts to Sikkim. This team will study the problems faced by farmers directly and suggest ways to overcome them. The Minister also talked about setting up laboratories close to the farms. This step will help farmers get quick and scientific solutions to their agricultural problems.

The Chief Minister expressed his thanks for the positive response from the Centre and said he is hopeful about the support that will strengthen the agriculture sector in Sikkim. Both leaders agreed that such cooperation is key to improving the lives of farmers and boosting the state’s farming economy.
