Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended his greetings and best wishes to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Maghe Sankranti, celebrated as Makar Sankranti in other parts of India.
In his message, the Chief Minister highlighted the celestial, spiritual, and cultural significance of the festival, which marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makara). “Maghe Sankranti symbolizes the onset of longer days, the beginning of the harvest season, and the renewal of life and hope,” he said.
This year’s celebrations in Sikkim are set to be a vibrant showcase of the state’s rich traditions and cultural diversity. The festival is bringing together communities through colorful rituals, festive gatherings, and the sharing of local delicacies. From traditional songs and dances to age-old customs, the festival is a reflection of unity and harmony across the state.
