As he marks one year in office, the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, has shared a heartfelt message with the people of the state, reflecting on his time as the 18th Governor of Sikkim. In a warm and sincere address dated July 30, the Governor expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for the people of Sikkim and the experiences that have shaped his first year in the role.

“It feels like only yesterday that I took the oath at Raj Bhavan,” the Governor said, noting how quickly the past year had passed. “But looking back, this journey has been full of learning, inspiration, and meaningful connections.”

Since assuming office, Governor Mathur has travelled extensively throughout the state, visiting places both remote and urban. From the high mountain pass of Donkela to the vibrant celebration of Maghey Mela in Jorethang, he has made it a point to meet people from all walks of life and understand their daily challenges and aspirations.

One of the key highlights of his tenure was participating in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood. He also took part in the flagging off of the sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra at Nathula and was present at the inauguration of Prerna Sthal in Bardang—a memorial built to honour those who lost their lives during the devastating flash floods of October 2023.

He spoke with particular pride about bringing electricity to the remote Dichu village near the Doklam forward post. “It was a moment that reaffirmed our belief in inclusive growth,” he noted. The Governor also highlighted his visit to the border areas under the Vibrant Villages Programme, an initiative that aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to develop border villages and make them self-reliant.

A strong advocate for women’s empowerment, Governor Mathur praised the role of Sikkimese women in shaping the state’s development. “They are not only participating but leading in every sector—education, governance, business, and social work,” he said.

He also lauded the citizens of Sikkim for their discipline, especially in road manners and traffic rules. “Our state may be small in size, but the civic sense of its people is an example for the whole nation,” he said. The Governor pointed out how this sense of responsibility is also seen in the cleanliness of the state. Whether in the towns or in the hills, the people of Sikkim show great care for the environment, which has helped maintain the state’s reputation as one of the cleanest and greenest in India.

Governor Mathur expressed his appreciation for Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang and his Cabinet for their cooperation and commitment to the people’s welfare. “Their support has helped us move forward together in our goals,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Governor expressed confidence in the potential of Sikkim to become a model state. He said that the people of Sikkim are forward-thinking and full of potential, and they will play an important part in building a developed India by 2047. He added, “With our shared efforts, I am sure we will set new standards in governance, innovation, sustainability, and overall development.”

Governor Mathur said he remains committed to serving the people with dedication. “Sikkim’s strength lies in its unity and diversity. I look forward to continuing this journey, working hand in hand with the people, for a better and brighter future.”
