Sikkim celebrates olympic day with spirit of unity and excellence

The Sikkim Olympic Association (SOA), in collaboration with its affiliated sports associations, celebrated International Olympic Day with fervor and unity at its office premises in Gangtok on Monday. Themed “Move, Learn, Discover – Together for a Better World”, the event was a vibrant reflection of the Olympic spirit, blending sport, celebration, and community service.
The celebration was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Minister Shri N.B. Dahal, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Jacob Khaling, presidents and executive members of various sports associations, and senior sports officials. The event served as a platform to not only honor the Olympic movement but also to reaffirm Sikkim’s commitment to nurturing sports talent and promoting physical fitness across the state.
Messages from His Excellency the Governor of Sikkim, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, and the Hon’ble Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs were read out during the event. Their messages highlighted the importance of Olympic values such as excellence, friendship, and respect, and reiterated the government's continuous support for sports development and athlete welfare in the state.

In keeping with the spirit of camaraderie and celebration, a cake-cutting ceremony was held, symbolizing unity and shared commitment to sporting ideals. A range of sporting activities were conducted, engaging participants in the joy of movement and teamwork.
In a commendable initiative, a blood donation camp was also organized as part of the day’s programme. This act of service underscored the Olympic values of solidarity and community engagement, extending the spirit of giving beyond the playing field.
