Sikkim celebrates 50 years with grand Agriculture Fair and Exhibition

As part of the 50th anniversary of Sikkim's establishment as a state, the Agriculture Fair and Exhibition Program concluded today at the Agricultural Science Center in Mangan, North Sikkim. The event showcased the state’s progress in agriculture and horticulture, with a strong emphasis on organic farming.
The program was graced by the presence of Puran Kumar Gurung, MLA of Chhuzachen Constituency and Sikkim’s Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Services, and Fisheries Development. Other dignitaries included Jigmi Dorji Bhotia, Secretary of the Agriculture Department; the Additional District Collector of Mangan; senior officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture Department; officers from the Agricultural Science Center; District Panchayat members; and progressive farmers.
The organizing committee extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and other special invitees with bouquets of flowers. Minister Gurung interacted with farmers while observing an impressive display of organic vegetables, fruits, and flowers produced by local farmers, reflecting the district's agricultural prowess.
The formal proceedings commenced with the ceremonial lighting of a lamp by the Chief Guest in the auditorium of the Agricultural Science Center. Addressing the gathering Gurung highlighted the transformative efforts of the current Sikkim Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. He praised the dedication of farmers in Mangan, noting their progressive approach to organic farming and sustainable agriculture practices.
"The SKM Government has taken significant steps to uplift agriculture and horticulture in the state. Our farmers in Mangan are leading the way in organic cultivation, which is a testament to their hard work and innovation," Gurung said.
