The collapse of the Bailey Bridge at Sankalang on February 11 has caused significant disruption to connectivity between Dzongu and Mangan in Sikkim’s Mangan district. Officials are now focusing on repairing the Bamboo Suspension Bridge, which has become the only route for travelers.
The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dzongu issued an official order addressing the situation. As per the order, the Bamboo Suspension Bridge will be closed to public use on February 16 (Sunday) and February 17, 2025, to carry out essential repairs and maintenance. The bridge, which had not been in regular use while the Bailey Bridge was operational, now requires immediate attention to ensure its structural safety.
During the closure, officials have urged residents and travelers to plan their journeys accordingly. Efforts are being made to complete the repair work as quickly as possible to restore safe connectivity.
The notice has been shared with key officials, including the District Magistrate of Mangan, Superintendent of Police, the Information and Public Relations Department, local Panchayat Presidents and Police Outpost In-charges of Sankalang and Phidang.
Officials have assured the public that they are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as the work progresses. Travelers are advised to follow any new announcements and cooperate with local authorities for safety during the repair period.
