Sikkim: Awareness camp on livestock and dairying held in Melli

An awareness camp on livestock, dairying, and poultry management was successfully organized at the Village Administrative Centre, Turuk Ramabong, Melli. The event was conducted by the Training and Extension Cell of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
The program was graced by Shri N.B. Pradhan, Hon’ble Advisor (AH&VS) and area MLA of Melli. Other dignitaries present included the Zilla Panchayat members, Panchayat President, Board of Directors from Sikkim Milk Union (SMU), Director (T&E/C&D), Additional Directors, Joint Director, Deputy Director, Junior Field Supervisor, and over 120 farmers from Turuk and nearby areas.
During the camp, experts discussed key topics related to livestock and dairy farming, such as livestock insurance, clean milk production, the functioning of dairy cooperatives, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) schemes, vaccination programs, and Bharat Pashudhan. The discussions also covered disease control measures, antibiotic resistance, artificial insemination, and the benefits of the mobile veterinary unit (1962).
Pradhan encouraged the farmers with his closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of modern dairy practices for improved productivity. As part of the initiative, mineral mixtures, dewormers and essential medicines were distributed to the farmers.
