Sikkim achieves major milestone in women empowerment and international careers

Sikkim has achieved a remarkable milestone in women empowerment and economic development through its Sikkim INSPIRES Program, which has opened new international career opportunities for women. Under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), 13 women nurses, who have undergone German language training in Kerala, have secured placements in Germany's healthcare sector. They are set to travel to Germany by March 2025, with the first four expected to depart by the end of January.

This achievement was celebrated at the Maghey Sankranti Mela on 14th January 2025 in Jorethang, where the Chief Minister personally felicitated the nurses. The event also marked the golden jubilee celebration of Sikkim's Statehood under the Indian Union, making it a momentous occasion for the state.

The German language training initiative is a joint effort of the Skill Development Department, Commerce & Industries Department, and the Planning & Development Department. This program not only reflects the state’s commitment to empowering women but also underscores its efforts to create global career pathways for its citizens, showcasing Sikkim's talent on the world stage.

The Sikkim INSPIRES (Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economies) Program, a flagship initiative of the Government of Sikkim, is designed to enhance the employability of the state’s youth and foster international partnerships for skill-driven economic growth, particularly in non-farm sectors.

In addition, the Chief Minister also felicitated seven outstanding alumni trained under various Skill Development Department schemes, who are now employed in prestigious organizations or are self-employed. These alumni, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds, serve as an inspiration for others, demonstrating the power of education and skill development in transforming lives.
