Sikkim: 14-year-old dies by suicide in Namchi

In Rimba Rayong in Namchi District, 14-year-old girl was found lifeless in her bedroom, having taken her own life by hanging herself with a scarf on May 7.

Ravangla Police Station received the news at around 2:16 p.m. Sarita Chettri, a 28-year-old ward panchayat from Rayong Pipalay, made a phone call to report the incident. Sarita told police that xxxxxx, the daughter of xxxxx was found in her home in Rimba Rayong.

Ravangla Police Station soon arrived at xxx family’s home completed all the necessary steps at the scene, including examining the bedroom where she was found. An inquest, a formal process to look into sudden deaths, was carried out to document the circumstances. The police looked for any signs that might suggest something other than suicide, but so far, they have found no evidence of foul play. Nothing at the scene pointed to anyone else being involved and the case is being treated as a suicide.

Her body was moved to the mortuary at the District Hospital in Namchi, where it is being kept until the post-mortem can be completed. This medical examination will confirm the cause of death and ensure that no details are overlooked.

The case has been registered as an unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, with the FIR numbered 05/2025. The investigation is still active.
