In a coordinated effort to ensure the safety of stranded visitors, a second batch of 20 tourists, including two U.S. citizens, was successfully airlifted today from Chaten to Pakyong Greenfield Airport by the Indian Air Force (IAF). This comes as part of an ongoing rescue mission in response to severe weather conditions and treacherous terrain in North Sikkim.

The tourists were flown out in an IAF MI-17 helicopter, marking the latest phase of the evacuation operation being carried out under the guidance of the State Government. In total, 63 tourists, including families with children, have now been safely evacuated since the rescue efforts began.

To ensure a smooth transition for the rescued tourists, the Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) has deployed buses to transport them to Gangtok. For those looking to continue their journey beyond Sikkim, an additional MI-17 sortie was arranged to facilitate their travel to Bagdogra, enabling onward connectivity.

The evacuation mission remains subject to weather clearance, and further rescue sorties will be planned accordingly. Authorities have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to protect lives and provide essential support during this crisis.

Officials from the District Information Office, Pakyong, confirmed that the State Government is closely monitoring the situation and is fully committed to the well-being of all stranded tourists.
