Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Jorethang, Yogen Syangden conducted a comprehensive inspection of petrol pumps across the Jorethang Sub Division on July 8. The inspection team included SDPO Jorethang Mr. Kessang D. Bhutia and officials from the Fire Department.
The main objective of the inspection was to assess the cleanliness and hygiene standards, along with the availability of essential customer amenities such as separate washrooms for men and women. The officials checked key indicators including handwash facilities, cleanliness of toilets, availability of running water, free air service machines, digital rate boards, “No Smoking” signage, emergency contact lists, and the condition of fire extinguishers.
While the overall condition of most petrol pumps was found satisfactory, with neat surroundings and proper hygiene measures in place, the team found lapses at a few outlets. Notably, some petrol pumps had not installed digital rate boards, and a few fire extinguishers were found to be non-functional, prompting immediate instructions for their replacement.
At the South West Fuelling Station in Melli, the team observed the lack of separate toilets for male and female customers. The proprietor, Mr. Kisan Kumar Agarwal, was directed to ensure the provision of separate washrooms within one month.
The inspection covered five major fuel stations in the area:
Karma Fuel Centre, Jorethang
Jindal Fuels, Majhitar
Shangrilla Oil Depot, Melli
Kuber Square Service Station, Jorethang-Melli Road
South West Fuelling Station, Melli
All five petrol pumps were found to have functioning free air filling machines, and most had maintained clean washrooms with running water and soap.
