The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) Party on Friday organized a special event at its Party Headquarters in Gangtok Bypass to commemorate 50 years since the establishment of the state. The program, themed "Remembering the Past, Building the Future," was chaired by former Chief Minister and party president Shri Pawan Chamling and saw the participation of party workers and citizens alike.

In his address, Chamling paid heartfelt tribute to the pioneers of the statehood movement, recalling the significant contributions of former leaders and party members who laid the foundation for modern Sikkim. He urged the people of Sikkim to come together to shape a brighter and united future for the state.

Reflecting on the legacy of the SDF-led government, Chamling highlighted achievements in human resource development, infrastructure, education, organic farming, tourism, and cultural progress. He said these milestones were made possible under the principles of social justice, peace, and democratic governance. “The progress and standard of living achieved by Sikkimese people today is a result of the values we upheld,” he stated.

Chamling also cautioned that Sikkim will face many complex challenges in the days ahead—ranging from global to local issues—and emphasized the importance of staying committed to democratic principles. “Despite these challenges, the SDF is determined to uphold the pride of Sikkimese identity on the global stage,” he added.

He called upon the youth to learn from history and actively contribute to the future of Sikkim. “Our goal is to make Sikkim a model state for the world,” he declared, urging youth, women, intellectuals, farmers, entrepreneurs, and students to participate in this renewed mission.

The program also honored former Chief Ministers Late L.D. Kazi, Late Nar Bahadur Bhandari, Late B.B. Gurung, and Late Sanchaman Limboo for their lasting contributions to the state. The SDF adopted several proposals and pledges aimed at serving the interests of the people of Sikkim.
