Police in Mangan district of Sikkim have launched an investigation into serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving a school employee and a minor girl student. The case has sparked widespread concern in the community, raising questions about child safety in educational institutions.
According to official sources, a written complaint was submitted to the police on July 19 by a representative from a child protection organisation operating in the region. The complaint states that a staff member of a local school allegedly engaged in inappropriate behaviour with a student of Class IV on two separate occasions.
The first incident reportedly took place on July 16, during a short break in the school day. It has been alleged that the school employee approached the girl while she was alone in the classroom and acted in a way that violated her personal boundaries. The matter did not come to light immediately.
On the following day, July 17, the accused reportedly lured the child to his residence under the pretext of offering her tea. There, further inappropriate conduct is alleged to have taken place. The girl later informed authorities, following which the child welfare agency intervened and submitted a formal First Information Report (FIR) to the police.
After receiving the FIR, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The child has since been provided medical care and counselling and her statement is being recorded in the presence of child protection officials.
