Tseten Tashi Bhutia, Chief Advisor to the BJP Sikkim unit, on Wednesday issued a strong appeal to the people of Sikkim to stand united against the growing menace of fake citizenship and fraudulent documents in the state. Speaking on the matter, he stressed that the issue was not just about politics but about the future of Sikkim and the security of the entire nation.
Bhutia said that for years, concerns had been raised over fake voter cards, duplicate identity documents, and illegal citizenship claims. “Time and again, we have raised our voice against fake voter cards, fraudulent citizenship, and duplicate documents. Yet, despite a few cancellations, no concrete action has been taken,” he stated. He further alleged that instead of being removed, some of these individuals had even managed to climb to positions of influence in Sikkim.
Calling this a “dangerous trend” for a border-sensitive and strategically important state like Sikkim, Bhutia warned that every fake document holder was not just cheating the local people but also posing a threat to national security. He stressed the urgency of taking firm and uncompromising measures to safeguard Sikkim’s identity and protect the rights of genuine Sikkimese citizens.
“It is high time we wake up from our slumber and take a stand. Let us unite, not for political gain, but for the sake of our children and future generations. If we remain silent today, we risk losing our identity tomorrow,” Bhutia said.
He urged the administration and the people to work together to identify and remove fake document holders, and to put an end to such practices that undermine the state’s integrity.
