SARATHI 1.0 training begins in Soreng to promote addiction-free and mentally healthy Sikkim

The training, organized under the guidance of Shri Aditya Golay, Area MLA for Soreng Chakung Constituency, and Rohit Raj Gurung, Chief Resource Person for the SARATHI Organization and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, will span three days, concluding on January 13, 2025.

The second batch of students in Soreng District commenced their training under the SARATHI 1.0 program today, aimed at building an addiction-free and mentally healthy Sikkim. The initiative, launched under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), focuses on addressing substance misuse and promoting mental well-being among the youth.

The training, organized under the guidance of Shri Aditya Golay, Area MLA for Soreng Chakung Constituency, and Rohit Raj Gurung, Chief Resource Person for the SARATHI Organization and Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sikkim, will span three days, concluding on January 13, 2025. A total of 28 students, including 2 boys and 2 girls, have been selected from senior secondary schools across Soreng District. Participating schools include K.B. Limboo Senior Secondary School, Sribadam; Government Senior Secondary School Chota Samdung; Dow Gyasto Senior Secondary School Mangalbaria; Government Senior Secondary School Gelling; Government Senior Secondary School Chakung; Government Senior Secondary School Kamling; and Government Senior Secondary School Khanisirbung.

On the first day of training, various sessions and activities were conducted, including:

Ice-breaking session led by Ram Chandra Regmi and Tila Rupa Chettri

Situation Analysis to assess current issues and challenges

Introduction to SARATHI 1.0 and the SARATHI Club, which aims to support students in fostering healthy lifestyles

Substance Misuse and Mental Health session by Dr. Upashna Gurung, Psychiatrist at STNM Hospital, Gangtok, who shared valuable insights into the impact of substance abuse on mental health

Throughout the day, students participated in group activities designed to enhance their understanding and engagement with the program. These sessions are part of SARATHI’s broader mission to empower students to become advocates for mental health and wellness in their communities.
