Sangay Sherpa appointed President of Denzong Sherpa Association

The newly appointed committee members will now be responsible for the regular functioning of the association.

The Denzong Sherpa Association (DSA) held a general meeting in Gangtok on Saturday and announced a new leadership team. The meeting was chaired by Sungder Sherpa and attended by coordinators from five districts, along with senior advisors of the association. The gathering focused on the future direction of the Association and how best to serve the Sherpa community across the state.

After detailed discussions, the members of the meeting unanimously appointed Shri Sangay Sherpa as the full-time President of the Denzong Sherpa Association for the next three years. Shri Sangay Sherpa had been serving as the adhoc President until now. With this new responsibility, he will be leading the association in carrying out its mission and promoting the welfare of the Sherpa community.

Alongside the appointment of the President, the meeting also finalized the names of several other executive members who were all selected unopposed. These include:

Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa as Chief Patron

Shri Topgyal Tshering Sherpa as Patron

Shri Sonam Gyatso Sherpa as General Secretary

Shri Tashi Sherpa as Assistant Secretary

Shri Pema Wangchuk Sherpa as Vice President

Shri Nim Dawa Sherpa as Joint Secretary

Shri Phurba Sherpa as Treasurer

The newly appointed committee members will now be responsible for the regular functioning of the association. They plan to hold coordination meetings in different parts of Sikkim soon. These meetings will aim to improve communication within the community and encourage more active involvement in the association’s work.
