Sancha Man Limboo Government College organizes awareness programme on legal aid for women

Sancha Man Limboo Government College (SMLGC), Arigoan, Gyalshing, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Gyalshing, successfully hosted a one-day Awareness and Sensitization Programme on Legal Aid for Women to mark National Legal Aid Week for Women. The event, organized by the Gender Sensitization Unit (GSU) and Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), took place at the college auditorium.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the dignitaries, including Shri Jiwan Kumar Kharka, Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge, Gyalshing, and Shri Sayshay Hang Subba, Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate and Secretary, DLSA, Gyalshing. They were felicitated with traditional khadas and presented mementos by Mr. Biswa Raj Gurung, Joint Director (ADM), SMLGC. Esteemed resource persons from DLSA and the Social Welfare Department, Gyalshing, were also honored.

Objectives and Impact
Speakers emphasized that lack of awareness leads to legal complications, urging students to educate themselves and act as messengers of social welfare in their communities. They stressed that informed youth can empower marginalized groups and prevent legal issues.
The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session, followed by a vote of thanks by Karma Choden Bhutia, Convenor, GSU/ICC, and Assistant Professor, SMLGC.
The event was attended by college faculty, officials from DLSA, the Social Welfare Department, Women & Child Welfare Department, and students, making it a significant step toward legal empowerment and awareness.
