The Gyalshing District Football Association (GDFA), with support from the Sikkim Football Association (SFA) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF), held a four-day Referee Refresher and Upgradation Course at the Kyongsha Ground in Gyalshing. The training ran from April 13 to 16, 2025, and aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of football referees in the state.

A total of 64 participants took part in the programme, including 36 fresh trainees and 28 referees who were already officiating but wanted to sharpen their abilities. The course was designed to help both new and experienced referees stay updated with the latest rules and techniques of the game. Sessions included theoretical classes, practical demonstrations on the field, and fitness training.

The initiative is part of SFA’s ongoing efforts to raise the standard of football in Sikkim. By focusing on the quality of refereeing, the association hopes to ensure fairer and more professional matches across the state. Proper training for referees is seen as a key step in developing the overall football ecosystem in the region.

The training was led by two experienced instructors, Abdul Saleem and Piyush Biswas, who are both highly respected in the Indian football community. The SFA thanked the AIFF for its continued support and guidance in making the programme a success.

“We are very happy with the outcome of the course. The response from the participants was very positive. We thank AIFF for its support and guidance through the instructors, and we hope to continue such collaborations in the future,” said an SFA representative.
