Rangpo Police Station, led by Police Inspector Chomu Lachungpa, is taking strong action against drug trafficking in Sikkim, demonstrating a firm commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. In a major effort, the police registered three separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act within just one week, sending a powerful message that drug-related crimes will not be tolerated.

On April 21, 2025, Rangpo Police made a significant bust at Atal Setu when they intercepted a private vehicle carrying three individuals attempting to smuggle brown sugar into Sikkim. After a thorough investigation, police seized a substantial quantity of narcotics from the vehicle. The accused were immediately arrested, and a case was registered under the NDPS Act, along with BNS 2023. The suspects were later sent to the State Jail at Rongyek for further legal proceedings.

But the efforts didn’t stop there. Just three days later, on April 24, 2025, Rangpo Police made two more arrests, registering two additional cases within a span of only five hours. The first case occurred at the Old Rangpo Checkpost, where two Nepali nationals were caught trying to smuggle brown sugar worth lakhs of rupees into the state. Police quickly seized the contraband and took the suspects into custody, filing Rangpo PS FIR No. 19/2025 under the NDPS Act.

Less than an hour later, law enforcement officers, acting on intelligence, intercepted a woman attempting to smuggle a significant amount of brown sugar aboard a transport bus at the same checkpost. The authorities acted and a case, Rangpo PS Case No. 20/2025, was registered under the NDPS Act.
