Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and BJP National Spokesperson, Raju Bista, attended the 2nd ISKF India Shoto Cup National Karate Championship being held in Darjeeling. The event saw participation from young karate athletes from across India, including states such as West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and others.

Addressing the participants and spectators, Raju Bista praised the role of sports in shaping individuals and society. He said how sports are not just about physical fitness, but also help in improving mental strength, emotional well-being, and social values. “Sports teach us discipline, teamwork, focus, and patience. These qualities are very important in life, especially for young people,” he said.

Bista said that martial arts like karate go beyond competitions and medals. “Karate helps build inner strength, character, and discipline. It promotes a healthy way of living and brings people together,” he said. He also added that such events promote national pride and international friendship.

The MP said he was proud to see youth from the Darjeeling hills and other parts of the region participating in sports and doing well at national and international levels. He credited their success to hard work and dedication, and said it brings great pride not only to their families but also to the entire community and country.

He also spoke about the Central Government’s continued support for sports. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s leadership, the ‘Khelo India’ programme is helping many young athletes from rural areas. This scheme is giving them a chance to show their talent on bigger platforms,” Bista said.

He appreciated the effort and dedication of the organisers, coaches, and volunteers who are working to support young athletes. He also congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm and wished them the best for their future in sports.
