Minister Ven Sonam Lama met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence in New Delhi to discuss pressing challenges faced by people living in the border regions of Sikkim. The meeting was focused mainly on disaster-related problems in the state’s northern parts, particularly in North Sikkim, where harsh weather conditions and frequent natural calamities continue to affect lives and infrastructure.
During the meeting, Ven Sonam Lama drew the Defence Minister’s attention to the difficulties faced by border communities. He explained how these remote settlements often remain vulnerable to landslides, flash floods, and other disaster-related risks. He also highlighted the ongoing mitigation works being carried out to reduce the impact of such calamities. According to Lama, the people of North Sikkim have shown resilience, but more support is needed to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure safety in these high-risk areas.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh listened carefully and appreciated the concerns raised by Ven Sonam Lama. He lauded the efforts of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who has taken several initiatives for the welfare and development of the state.
