Prohibitory order issued for Sikkim Legislative Assembly sitting
The order mandates the prohibition of any assembly of five or more persons within a 300-meter radius of the Assembly Secretariat, starting from 9:00 AM on 5th February until the conclusion of the sitting or unless revoked earlier.

In light of the upcoming sitting of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly on 5th February 2025, the District Magistrate of Gangtok, Tushar G. Nikhare, has issued a Prohibitory Order under Section 163 of BNSS, 2023 to maintain law and order around the Assembly complex.
The order mandates the prohibition of any assembly of five or more persons within a 300-meter radius of the Assembly Secretariat, starting from 9:00 AM on 5th February until the conclusion of the sitting or unless revoked earlier. This includes actions such as sloganeering, protesting, staging dharnas, picketing, postering, or any other activities that may disrupt the sanctity and decorum of the Assembly or disturb public peace.
The District Magistrate said that this order was issued without notice, given the urgency of the situation, and is intended to ensure the smooth functioning of the Assembly. The order will not apply to law enforcement agencies, including police personnel, army, CRPF, and para-military forces, who are lawfully engaged in maintaining order.
