The Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) marked its 23rd Foundation Day with warmth, pride, and a renewed commitment to truth and public service. On this important occasion, Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the entire press fraternity of the state.
In his message, Tamang highlighted the important role the Press Club of Sikkim has played over the years. He said that the Press Club has stood strong as a symbol of good journalism in the state. It has helped raise the voice of the people, promoted open discussions, and protected the freedom of the press. According to him, for over two decades, PCS has not only supported journalists but has also helped strengthen the democratic system of the state.
Tamang took a moment to appreciate all those who work fearlessly in the media. He said that journalists are the guardians of truth and accountability. Their role is not easy, but it is very important for a healthy and transparent society.
Sharing a personal reflection, Tamang spoke about his own journey as a journalist before joining public service. He said that being a journalist taught him to ask the right questions, look for the truth, and stay committed to doing what is right. He described those years in journalism as the foundation of who he is today. “Being part of this noble profession was, and will always remain, both a fortune and a blessing,” he said.
He also expressed that having worked in media himself, he understands the challenges journalists face. And because of that understanding, he feels a stronger responsibility to support the media community in every possible way.
Tamang also appreciated the efforts of the Sikkim government under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). He said that the government has taken several steps to help and support journalists in the state. These include the construction of the much-awaited Press Club Bhawan, financial and logistic support to media houses, health insurance and pension schemes for journalists, and recognition through journalism awards.
“These efforts show that the state government believes in a free, strong, and dignified press,” Tamang noted.
He ended his message with a hope that the Press Club of Sikkim will continue to grow stronger in the years to come. He wished all journalists courage, strength, and impact as they continue their mission of reporting the truth.
