Darjeeling Member of Parliament Raju Bista on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a new nationwide initiative, the "Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan – Healthy Women Strong Families Initiative," on September 17, 2025. The program aims to strengthen healthcare services for women and children across the country and ensure better access to quality care.

In a press release issued from his office, MP Bista said that the initiative is part of the government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare under its broader “Viksit Bharat” vision. “This program will focus on improving access to healthcare, raising awareness about preventive care, and fostering healthier families,” Bista said. He said that the Abhiyaan reflects the government’s focus on placing women’s and children’s health at the center of development efforts.

As part of the campaign, around 75,000 health camps will be organized at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Community Health Centres, and other healthcare facilities nationwide. These camps will provide specialized medical services tailored to the needs of women and children, including preventive health check-ups, consultations, and health education programs. In addition, September will be observed as "Poshan Maah" or the month of nutrition, during which all Anganwadis will focus on nutrition, health awareness, and overall well-being to build stronger communities.

MP Bista urged hospitals, medical professionals, and healthcare stakeholders in the Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars regions to actively participate in this Jan Bhagidari Abhiyaan. He encouraged experts and institutions to contribute their knowledge, time, and resources to amplify the impact of the program in the local areas.

“The initiative, guided by the principle of ‘India First,’ underlines the nation’s determination to prioritize women’s and children’s health,” Bista added. He said that by empowering families through better health, the program will pave the way for a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous India.
