PM Modi hails Sikkim’s 50 years of progress, calls it a model of harmony between nature and development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Sikkim’s remarkable journey over the last fifty years, calling it a proud example of progress combined with nature. Speaking virtually at the Sikkim @50 event, PM Modi said that the trust of every family in Sikkim has grown steadily, and the whole country has seen the positive results in the state’s development.
“Sikkim today is the pride of the nation,” said the Prime Minister. He highlighted that over five decades, Sikkim has become a model state that balances progress and nature. It has transformed into a vast garden of biodiversity, reflecting the rich variety of plants and animals living there. Sikkim has also become India’s first 100 percent organic state, meaning that all farming is done without chemical pesticides or fertilizers. This achievement, according to PM Modi, shows Sikkim’s leadership in protecting the environment while moving forward.
The Prime Minister also mentioned Sikkim’s rich culture and heritage, which shine through as a symbol of the state’s identity and pride. “It has emerged as a symbol of the richness of culture and heritage,” he said.
PM Modi expressed his wish to attend the celebrations in person. He shared that he left Delhi early and reached Bagdogra airport, but due to bad weather, he could not travel further to Sikkim. He apologized to the people and said, “Such a magnificent scene is in front of me, where people are everywhere.” He assured that whenever the state government decides, he will visit Sikkim to take part in the celebrations marking 50 years of Sikkim’s statehood.
This progress is part of a broader vision to support balanced growth in every region of India. The Prime Minister mentioned new infrastructure projects like the construction of around 400 kilometres of new national highways and over 100 kilometres of rural roads in Sikkim. The Atal Setu bridge has also improved connectivity between Sikkim and Darjeeling, making travel easier for the people.
PM Modi’s government is focused on inclusive development, ensuring that farmers, women, youth, and the poor are the main pillars of a developed India. Sikkim’s farmers, in particular, are praised for leading the country in organic farming and adopting new agricultural trends.
In addition to celebrating Sikkim, the Prime Minister is on a multi-state tour. After the Sikkim event, he will visit West Bengal to lay the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution project and then go to Bihar to inaugurate the new terminal building of Patna Airport. Tomorrow, he will open several development projects worth thousands of crores in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Through these visits and projects, Prime Minister Modi aims to strengthen India’s growth, bringing all regions forward together while protecting their unique cultures and natural beauty.
