Dr. Anirban Ganguly, Chairman and Trustee of the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Research Foundation, highlighted strong public support for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative during his visit to Gangtok, Sikkim. He said that discussions with various groups in Gangtok reinforced the idea that people are open to the concept and eager for debate.

Speaking about the public response, Dr. Ganguly said, "People are extremely forthcoming and welcoming of the idea. They want discussions, they want debates, and it is clear that this is something people across the country desire. When Prime Minister Modi proposed this, people did not doubt his intentions. They know that he aims to strengthen democracy and governance through this reform."

Regarding concerns over the impact on migrant workers, Dr. Ganguly explained that industry leaders and business organizations like FICCI and ASSOCHAM had raised concerns about frequent elections affecting workers. "Many migrant workers are registered voters in their home states. When multiple elections take place, they have to travel back frequently, which affects their work. If elections happen once in five years, they will need to travel only once for voting, reducing the disruption in their lives," he said.

Dr. Ganguly also said that the consultation process for ‘One Nation, One Election’ was extensive. Over 191 days, consultations were held with all states, political parties, industry bodies, and legal experts. He expressed confidence that Sikkim, like other states, had participated in this process, ensuring that diverse perspectives were considered.
