Over 400 Karatekas compete as 21st State Karate Championship 2025 kicks off in Gangtok

The 21st State Karate Championship 2025 officially commenced on Saturday at the indoor gymnasium of the Paljor Stadium complex in Gangtok. The event was inaugurated by Tathangchen Councillor Pema Lhamu Lamtha in the presence of sports enthusiasts and officials.
Organized by the Sikkim State Karate-Do Association (SSKA), the two-day championship has attracted over 400 karatekas from all six districts of Sikkim. The event is being conducted under the supervision of 45 officials.
In his welcome address, SSKA President Bijoy Gurung said that the championship is an annual feature of the association. He informed that gold medalists from this event will represent Sikkim at the KIO All India Karate Championship 2025 for Cadet, Junior, U-21, and Senior categories, which will be held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in June this year.
Following the inauguration, competitions across various age and gender categories, including Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior, U-21 (Boys and Girls), and Senior (Men and Women), got underway. The opening day also witnessed the attendance of representatives from various sports associations across Sikkim.
