Former Sikkim Chief Minister and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) President Pawan Chamling launched a scathing attack on the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on the occasion of SDF’s 33rd foundation day. Chamling accused SKM, led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang of failing to fulfill its promises and misleading the people of Sikkim.

In a sharp remark, Chamling said, “Golay deserves a Nobel Prize for lying and a Guinness World Record for false promises.” He criticized SKM for its unfulfilled commitments, particularly the promised unemployment allowance (Bekari Bhatta) of Rs 20,000 and the Dashain festival allowance of Rs 50,000, which have not been provided to the people.

Chamling also accused the SKM government of taking credit for central government schemes, such as the free rice distribution and the AAMA Yojana. He alleged that SKM is misleading people by presenting these as state government achievements.

“There is no leader like Golay when it comes to deception. His party promised many things but has fulfilled nothing,” Chamling said.

Dismissing speculations about his political exit, Chamling assured his supporters that he remains active in politics. “I have not resigned. I am still in the political arena. I will continue to speak for the poor and the people of Sikkim,” he declared.

Chamling compared the current situation in Sikkim to the infamous tale of Nero, suggesting that the state is suffering under SKM’s rule while the leadership remains indifferent. “Sikkim is sick, and it needs healing. The people must realize how things were before and how they are now,” he said.

Speaking on his early days in politics, Chamling acknowledged former Sikkim Chief Ministers Nar Bahadur Bhandari and Sanchaman Limboo as his political mentors. He praised Bhandari’s contributions, including free education, improved road connectivity, and better healthcare.

Chamling also pointed out contradictions in SKM’s governance, noting that the party initially opposed party-based Panchayat elections but has now changed its stance. “Golay himself proves SKM is wrong. They say one thing today and the opposite tomorrow,” he said.
