A nine-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her 14-year-old relative during a tuition class. The incident was reported on May 27, 2025.
According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed at Pakyong Police Station, the victim’s mother, identified only as M, arrived at the station at approximately 10:45 a.m. on May 27 to report the assault. The mother detailed the events that took place the previous evening.
The suspect, a 14-year-old boy identified as the son of a relative, allegedly assaulted the young girl in a praying hall, referred to locally as the “badar room,” during a routine tuition session.
The victim had attended the tuition class as she did regularly. However, on the evening of May 26, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m., she returned home visibly distressed. According to the FIR, the girl complained of diarrhea and bleeding from her private parts after visiting the bathroom. Alarmed, her mother examined her and confirmed the symptoms. When questioned, the child said that she had been sexually assaulted by her relative, whom she referred to as “Axxxx Kaka,” during the tuition class.
The mother rushed her daughter to Rongli Primary Health Centre (PHC) for immediate medical attention. Doctors at Rongli PHC referred the child to STNM Hospital in Gangtok for advanced medical care.
The next morning, the mother submitted a written FIR at Pakyong Police Station, demanding legal action against the alleged perpetrator, identified as a juvenile in conflict with the law.
The police initiated an investigation under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023. The 14-year-old suspect was medically examined at Rongli PHC, where blood and swab samples were collected from both the victim and the accused in the presence of witnesses.
The suspect’s statement was recorded under Section 180 of BNSS 2023 and officials seized the original birth certificates of both the victim and the accused to verify their ages. The investigation also involved coordination with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Pakyong, as well as notification of a remand advocate to ensure legal oversight.
The young victim remains under medical care at STNM Hospital, where doctors are providing treatment and support. Meanwhile, the juvenile suspect was presented before the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) in Gangtok on May 27. The JJB ordered the boy’s remand to a juvenile observation home, where he will remain until June 4, 2025.
