Sikkim Newar Guhti, a prominent socio-cultural organization dedicated to preserving the Newar heritage, has strongly condemned recent divisive remarks made against the Khas community.
In a statement, the organization emphasized that Sikkim has always been a land of communal harmony, where diverse ethnic groups have coexisted with mutual respect and solidarity. The rich cultural heritage of the state, blessed by Mount Khangchendzonga, stands as a symbol of unity, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence.
However, the Newar Guhti expressed deep regret over a recent incident where an individual attempted to disrupt this harmony by making inflammatory statements against the Khas community. The organization strongly opposed such acts of hatred, stating that Sikkim’s identity is rooted in love and respect, and any attempt to create divisions goes against the core values of the state.
The Sikkim Newar Guhti reaffirmed its solidarity with the Khas community and urged the authorities to take strict action against those spreading communal disharmony. The organization called for justice and stressed that hate speech has no place in Sikkim’s peaceful society.
The statement read: “Our unity is our strength. We were, are, and will always remain united as Sikkimese first, bound by the spirit of peace and fraternity.”
