The vibrant hues of Newari culture came alive at Newa Fest 2025, held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok. The grand celebration, jointly organized by Sikkim Newa Guthi and the Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, brought together music, dance, and authentic traditions of the Newar community.
A key highlight of the festival was the mesmerizing musical performance by Nasadhya, Sikkim’s first and only Newa Band. Their electrifying tunes captivated the audience, offering a soulful representation of the community’s rich musical legacy.
The festival was not just about music but also a feast for food lovers. Traditional Newari cuisine, including the famous drink Ayla, was served, giving attendees a taste of the authentic flavors of the community. The cultural extravaganza witnessed the participation of prominent dignitaries, including the Secretary of the Culture Department, senior members of Sikkim Newa Guthi, and officials from various government departments.
Addressing the gathering, MLA N.B. Pradhan stated the importance of cultural festivals in preserving Sikkim’s diverse heritage. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting and promoting indigenous traditions, ensuring that the cultural identity of various communities remains strong for future generations.
