The Sikkim Labour Department welcomed its newly appointed Chairman of the Labour Welfare Board, Prem Raj Gurung, and the newly designated Officer on Special Duty (OSD), N.B. Gurung. The event marked a significant step in strengthening the leadership of the department, as both officials took formal charge of their respective roles.

The welcome ceremony took place at the Labour Department office in the capital, where Secretary of the Labour Department, Shri Bhim Thatal, along with other senior officials and staff, extended a warm reception to the new appointees. The guests were offered traditional khadas as a mark of respect and goodwill, reflecting the rich cultural tradition of Sikkim.

Following the ceremonial welcome, both Shri Prem Raj Gurung and Shri N.B. Gurung officially assumed their offices. In a brief but meaningful interaction with department staff, the Chairman and the OSD expressed their gratitude for the trust placed in them and emphasized the importance of unity and commitment in delivering effective labour welfare policies.

Prem Raj Gurung, who now heads the Labour Welfare Board, stated that the Board would focus on improving the living and working conditions of labourers across the state. He reaffirmed that their efforts will be guided by the vision of the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, who has consistently advocated for the well-being of the working class in Sikkim.

N.B. Gurung, as the new OSD, echoed similar sentiments. He called upon the departmental team to work with dedication, coordination, and mutual respect to ensure timely implementation of welfare schemes and effective resolution of labour issues. “Our duty is not only administrative but also deeply social, as it directly impacts the lives of those who build our state with their hands,” he said.
