The four-day Vibrant Village Camp, organized by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Sikkim, concluded successfully today. The camp was part of the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Program, which aims to bring development and energy to remote border villages. It was held in the border village of Tsangmo, also known as Changu, in East Sikkim from April 25 to April 28, 2025.
The event was organized under the guidance of the Director General of NCC and managed by the Darjeeling and Sikkim Group of the West Bengal & Sikkim NCC Directorate. The main focus of the camp was on eco-tourism, community development, and national integration.
Senior boys and girls from the 1 Sikkim Battalion NCC and 3 Sikkim Battalion NCC, Gangtok, took part in the camp. The cadets actively engaged with the local community during the four days. They visited Changu and Chipsu villages, where they interacted with the local people, held cleanliness drives, and planted trees. The cadets also ran an awareness campaign on eco-tourism, distributed pamphlets, and spoke with yak herders and other people involved in the local tourism industry.
On the final day, the cadets attended a lecture about the Agniveer recruitment process for joining the Indian Army. A cultural program was also organized, where cadets performed and showcased the rich culture of India. The event saw participation from people of nearby villages like Changu, Chipsu, and Thegu, along with local police officials, forest department staff, and tourists who had come to the area.
Speaking to the media after the program, Pema Sherpa, President of the Gram Panchayat of Gnathang, praised the efforts of the NCC cadets. She said, "The cadets have brought great energy and awareness to our remote village. We hope more developmental projects will follow. Programs like these must continue for the betterment and all-round growth of our border areas."
