National Youth Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Gangtok today. The event was part of the Peace Activities organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) of Sikkim, dedicated to the Golden Jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood. This celebration aligned with Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang's vision of a "Sunaulo, Samriddha, ani Samartha Sikkim" (Golden, Prosperous, and Capable Sikkim).
Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Raj Kumari Thapa, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was felicitated as the Patron and Chairperson of the Peace Activities Organizing Committee. She announced that 50 peace activities would be conducted to mark 50 years of Sikkim's statehood. Addressing the gathering, she urged citizens to actively participate in realizing the Chief Minister’s vision for a golden future.
In her keynote address, Thapa highlighted the importance of youth leadership in shaping a peaceful and prosperous Sikkim. Drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, she encouraged the younger generation to embrace unity, self-reliance and spiritual strength to contribute to the shared goal of "Sunaulo Sikkim."
