Namchi police on Sunday intercepted one individual and recovered 216 capsules of a banned pharmaceutical formulation, acting swiftly on a tip-off received earlier in the day.
The accused, identified as Pemba Tamang, 31, son of Dorjee Tamang, a resident of Lower Boomtar, Namchi, was intercepted at Bhanzyang Road by a team of officers. The operation was carried out under the supervision of PI Karma T. Tamang, a gazetted officer from the Traffic Branch, Namchi, in the presence of independent witnesses.
Upon conducting a thorough search, police recovered 27 strips of Proximec-Spas capsules from a black-colored bag in the possession of the accused. Each strip contains a combination of Acetaminophen, Tramadol Hydrochloride, and Dicyclomine Hydrochloride — all regulated substances under the Sikkim Anti Drugs Act (SADA), 2006, and its 2017 Amendment.
The capsules are believed to be part of a controlled pharmaceutical formulation commonly abused for its narcotic effects, prompting immediate legal action. Officials said that a criminal case under relevant provisions of the SADA Act has been registered against the accused, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the source and potential network involved.
