The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Government of Sikkim, organized a Public Awareness and Consultation Meeting at the Namchi Town Hall. The meeting focused on the proposed sewerage system for the town and was held to inform people about the project and to collect their opinions and suggestions.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Urban Development Department (UDD) Minister Bhojraj Rai, who is also the MLA of Poklok-Kamrang constituency, and Satish Chandra Rai, the MLA of Namchi-Singithang constituency. PHED Secretary Sailendra Sharma was also present and addressed the gathering.
The main purpose of the event was to discuss the proposed sewerage system in detail and to ensure that the people of Namchi were fully aware of the plans. Officials explained that before starting any construction work, it is very important to carry out surveys and investigations. These will help in preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR), which is required before the project can move forward.
During the meeting, both MLAs stressed the importance of public involvement. They said that the people of Namchi should share their views and raise any concerns so that the final plan takes into account the needs of all residents. The officials also answered questions from local citizens and community members who attended the meeting in large numbers.
Minister Bhojraj Rai stated that the government is committed to bringing better sanitation and waste management systems to the town. He said that a modern sewerage system will help improve public health and protect the environment. “Our goal is to build a cleaner and healthier Namchi,” he said.
MLA Satish Chandra Rai also spoke about the importance of this project for the growing town. He mentioned that as Namchi develops, the need for proper waste water management becomes more urgent. “This project will not only improve hygiene but also support the town’s long-term development,” he said.
