The newly opened road along the Toong-Naga stretch under Mangan district, which forms a crucial part of the Mangan–Chungthang highway, has been closed for all kinds of traffic after fresh reports of sinking and multiple landslides were received.
According to official communication from the Officer Commanding, 107 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), the road axis was found to be unsafe at several locations. Large portions of the road have started sinking, and multiple slides have been reported in different patches, making travel extremely dangerous.
The road was opened recently after heavy efforts from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and local authorities, who had been working continuously to clear debris and restore connectivity. However, the new damages have once again cut off movement along this important route. Officials said that in its current condition, the road cannot support traffic, and reopening will only be considered after proper restoration works are carried out.
The Toong-Naga stretch is a lifeline for residents of Mangan and Chungthang areas, as it connects local communities to essential markets, schools, and healthcare services. Frequent landslides in this zone, especially during the monsoon season, have left the public struggling with transportation problems. For villagers and traders, the repeated closures mean disruptions in supply of food items, fuel, and other basic necessities.
