Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani made a resounding pledge of Rs 75,000 crore in investments for India’s North-East region over the next five years, during his address at the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Hailing the success of Operation Sindoor and praising the Prime Minister’s vision for the region, Ambani said, “The North-East is not just rising—it is roaring.”

In his address, Ambani outlined six key commitments across telecom, retail, energy, healthcare, and sports development, aimed at transforming the socio-economic landscape of the eight North-Eastern states; Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland Sikkim and Tripura.

Key announcements included doubling Jio’s 5G user base from 5 million to 10 million, integrating AI connectivity in schools, hospitals, and enterprises to enhance digital access and services. There is also a strong focus on boosting the rural economy by increasing procurement of agricultural produce and investing in FMCG manufacturing as well as artisan products, aiming to strengthen local industries.

In addition, plans were laid out to establish 350 Compressed Biogas plants designed to transform wasteland into “wealth-land,” promoting sustainable energy and environmental benefits. Healthcare advancement was emphasized with the announcement of a new cancer hospital in Manipur, genome-based research initiatives in Mizoram, and the setting up of a molecular diagnostics lab in Guwahati to improve medical research and diagnostics.

Furthermore, the establishment of Olympic Training Centres across all eight states was highlighted, aimed at harnessing and nurturing the region’s sports talent to elevate athletic performance on a national and international stage.

Ambani’s vision, backed by Reliance’s historical investment of Rs 30,000 crore in the region, signals a massive economic push designed to integrate the North-East into India’s growth mainstream.

“You have brought the North-East from the periphery to the centre of India’s developmental map,” Ambani told PM Modi.
