Dr. Indra Hang Subba, the Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim, met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi today. The meeting was focused on railway development in Sikkim, especially the new survey sanctioned for the proposed Melli–Dentam railway line.
Dr. Subba warmly thanked the Railway Minister for approving the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the Melli–Dentam line. He said this move shows the central government’s ongoing commitment to improving transport connectivity in the North East, especially in far-flung areas of Sikkim. According to him, such projects are important not only for development but also for national integration.
The Melli–Dentam line, once completed, is expected to benefit the people of West Sikkim and nearby regions by providing easier and faster transport. It will also help boost tourism in the hills and strengthen movement in sensitive border areas, adding to national security.
Dr. Subba used the opportunity to request the Minister to speed up the next steps, especially the completion of the Final Location Survey and the preparation and approval of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). He underlined that timely action on the project would make a big difference in the lives of people living in the western parts of the state.
The MP also spoke about the progress of other railway projects in the region. He appreciated the Sevoke–Rangpo railway line, which is moving ahead at a good pace. He also welcomed the recent nod for the Rangpo–Gangtok rail link. He called these projects “historic milestones” for Sikkim, saying they will bring the state closer to the rest of India with more reliable and affordable transport options.
Dr. Subba said that he would continue working for better infrastructure in the state. He thanked the Railway Minister once again for his consistent support and leadership, saying such efforts were paving the way for a brighter and more connected future for Sikkim.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with hopes that Sikkim’s railway dreams will soon become a reality.
