Sikkim's Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba, met Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, today at the Parliament House to discuss key road infrastructure issues in the state.

During the meeting, Subba thanked the Minister for swiftly transferring the maintenance of National Highway 10 (NH-10) to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). This move is expected to improve the upkeep and reliability of the highway, which is Sikkim’s lifeline.

The MP also urged Gadkari to fast-track the approval for an alternative National Highway from Melli to Singtam and Singtam to Sevoke. This proposed highway, planned as a greenfield, all-weather road on the opposite hillside of NH-10, aims to enhance connectivity and ensure a more stable transport network for the state.

Push for New National Highways in Soreng and Gyalshing

Shri Subba also submitted a formal request for new National Highways in Soreng and Gyalshing districts, which currently have poor NH connectivity. He highlighted that only about 30 km of NH-510 currently passes through Gyalshing, leaving large parts of the district underserved.

The MP specifically requested the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways to approve and expedite the following National Highway routes:

- Manpur to Legship via Jorthan, linking NH-710 and NH-510.

- Nayabazar–Daramdin–Sombaria–Soreng–Kaluk–Dentam–Chiwabhanjyang.

- Gyalshing–Pelling–Yuksam–Tashiding–Yuksam.

Subba said that these roads would greatly improve transportation in remote areas, supporting both economic growth and tourism in Sikkim.

Highlighting the importance of better roads for Sikkim’s development, MP Subba stressed that stronger road networks are essential for improving trade, tourism, and daily commuting in the hilly state. He expressed confidence that under Gadkari’s leadership, the Ministry would take necessary steps to boost road connectivity in Sikkim.
