In an effort to provide farmers with a proper marketplace and to promote organic farming in her constituency, Upper Burtuk MLA Kala Rai has taken the initiative to set up a new ‘Gaunley Bazaar’ in Salangthang ward, near Khel Gaon, Reshithang. The project, undertaken with the guidance of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, aims to create a village market where farmers can sell their organic produce directly to consumers.
For a long time, farmers from the Upper Burtuk area have faced difficulties due to the lack of a proper venue to sell their vegetables in Gangtok bazaar. With this new initiative, they will soon have a dedicated space to showcase and sell their produce every Saturday and Sunday. The market is expected to serve as a hub for vegetables and other organic products, giving local farmers greater visibility and income opportunities.
According to local ward Panchayat Govind Bhattarai, the work is being carried out with full involvement of the community under the leadership of MLA Kala Rai. The market is expected to be ready by September 21 and will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang himself. The project is being developed through Shram Daan (voluntary labor) contributed by local residents, party field-level office bearers, workers, and Panchayats.
