Minister and Area MLA of Yuksam-Tashiding constituency, Tshering T. Bhutia, visited the remote villages of Karjee-Mangnam and Dhuppi-Narkhola on Friday. The visit was part of the Sikkim government’s Government at Doorstep initiative, aimed at strengthening connections with rural communities and addressing their concerns directly.
The day began with a warm reception at Dhuppi-Narkhola, where villagers gathered to interact with the minister. Bhutia personally met residents, listened to grievances, and distributed essential household items, including pressure cookers, as a small gesture of support to the households.
Speaking to the people, Shri Bhutia reiterated his commitment to regular field visits across his constituency. “These interactions help me understand the needs of my people. Development should not be delayed due to lack of communication. I am here to listen, act, and ensure that your voices reach the highest offices,” he assured.
Responding to public appeals, the minister promised that road and infrastructure projects will be undertaken in a phased and planned manner. He assured villagers that their demands will be forwarded to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and addressed on a priority basis.
In an important highlight of the visit, the minister laid out his broader vision for rural tourism. Citing the scenic and cultural richness of the region, Shri Bhutia spoke of turning the area into a vibrant rural tourism hub. He informed villagers about plans to implement mega homestay projects and encouraged local youth to explore opportunities in tourism. “Our villages hold enormous potential. With support and right guidance, this region can become a model for rural tourism in Sikkim,” he said.
In addition to tourism, the minister emphasized the state government's focus on strengthening agriculture and dairy farming. He urged farmers and self-help groups to take advantage of welfare schemes and government support available under these sectors.
Several educated youth approached the minister seeking employment guidance and support. Bhutia patiently interacted with them, offering encouragement and noting their requests for follow-up action.
The minister was accompanied by a team of government officials and local representatives, including CLC President Shri Nandu Gurung, Zilla Panchayat Member Shri Yadhu Nath Chettri, Assistant Labour Commissioner Shri S.M. Limboo, former Ward President Shri Subash Dahal, CTI Officer Shri Narendra Rai, and Coordinator Shri S.K. Limboo, among others.
