In view of the forecasted heavy rainfall across Sikkim, especially in the northern region, Samdup Lepcha, Hon’ble Minister of the Social Welfare Department and MLA of 31-Lachen Mangan Constituency, has issued an urgent public appeal, urging residents to remain alert and take all necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their families.

Addressing the people of Sikkim with particular concern for those living in North Sikkim, the Minister advised citizens to avoid venturing out during periods of intense rain and wind. "Do not walk or drive through flooded areas as water levels can be deceptive and may hide open drains, sharp objects, or other hazards," said Shri Lepcha.

He emphasized the importance of staying indoors during heavy downpours and steering clear of water-logged zones where sudden flooding could pose serious risks. "It is also crucial to keep a safe distance from electrical wires and poles, which become especially dangerous during storms," he added.

Travelers were cautioned to check road conditions, traffic congestion, and weather advisories before starting their journeys. The Minister also encouraged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours to minimize risk.

In case of emergencies, residents were reminded to immediately contact their respective District or State Emergency Operations Centers for help. The government has kept its disaster response teams on alert, and all necessary arrangements are being put in place to respond quickly to any situation.

"Let’s work together to ensure our safety and well-being during this period. Thank you for your cooperation and vigilance," said Minister Lepcha.
