Minister for Buildings & Housing and Labour Department, Government of Sikkim, and Area MLA of 02-Yangthang Constituency, Shri Bhim Hang Limboo, actively participated in the ‘Clean the Drain Before the Rain’ campaign and a major cleanliness drive held in Pelling.

The initiative was jointly organised by the Forest Department in collaboration with the Pelling Tourism Development Association (PTDA) and Singyang-Chumbung Gram Panchayat Unit. The event witnessed an impressive turnout and enthusiastic participation from various departments, local governance bodies, and the public.

Starting from Lower Pelling and continuing up to Upper Pelling, the cleanliness drive covered a significant stretch of the area, focusing on cleaning roadside drains and public spaces. The campaign aimed to prevent waterlogging and maintain sanitation in advance of the upcoming monsoon season, which often brings challenges like clogged drainage, waterborne diseases, and disruptions to mobility in the region.

Bhim Hang Limboo, while addressing participants, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. He applauded the collaborative effort and highlighted that such initiatives not only ensure public health and hygiene but also contribute to maintaining the aesthetic appeal of Pelling as a key tourist destination.

The event was further strengthened by the presence of West District Collector Tenzing Denzongpa, Divisional Forest Officer (West) Nisha Subba, Additional Superintendent of Police Sonam Wangdi Bhutia, SKM Tourism Wing President Shri Narayan Khatiwada, Central Level Committee President Tashi Wangyal Bhutia, PTDA President Keshav Pradhan, and Panchayat President Tshering Phuti Bhutia.

Panchayat Members, members of PTDA, hoteliers, and representatives from civil society also took part in the initiative, showcasing unity and shared commitment towards community welfare. Armed with brooms, spades, and cleaning tools, the volunteers worked side by side, removing debris, clearing blocked drains, and collecting plastic waste along the route.
