Medhavi Skills University (MSU), one of Sikkim’s fastest-growing higher education institutions, marked a new chapter in its academic journey by hosting the grand orientation programme “PRARAMBH” for the incoming Batch of 2025 at Manan Kendra, Gangtok. The event brought together students, parents, policymakers, corporate leaders, and academicians, reinforcing the university’s commitment to blending skill-driven education with traditional academic excellence.
The orientation opened with a warm welcome to the new students and their families, setting the tone for the day. The dignitaries were ushered in with formal greetings before the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The University’s Cultural Club led the National Anthem, followed by a soulful welcome song presented by the student ensemble. A specially curated video highlighting MSU’s journey since its inception offered an inspiring snapshot of the institution’s rapid growth and national recognition.
Delivering the Opening Address, the Hon’ble Founder and Chancellor of MSU urged students to adopt curiosity and resilience as guiding principles in their academic journey. Emphasising the university’s vision, he remarked that MSU is not simply a degree-awarding body but an institution built to create innovators, leaders, and socially responsible citizens.
“At MSU, we have always aspired to bridge the gap between education and employability,” he said. “Our true strength lies in our students. As you step into this new chapter, remember that skills and knowledge together will define your future.”
The event brought together a distinguished panel of speakers from diverse fields. Shri Raj Shekhar Joshi, Vice-Chairman of SETU Ayog (formerly Uttarakhand Planning Commission), called for a renewed focus on linking higher education to real-world challenges. Mr. Rakesh Prasad, AVP-HR at Indigo Airlines, highlighted the importance of adaptability in a rapidly evolving job market.
Industry leaders including Mr. Debmalya Banerjee, Regional Director of the Indian Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Pankaj Mathur, Senior GM at Felix Hospital; and Mr. KB Kallapa, CHRO of Chai Point, also shared insights on employability and industry-academia collaboration. Their collective message underlined that universities must not only prepare graduates for jobs but also nurture the confidence to create new opportunities.
A highlight of the event was a series of vibrant cultural performances, reflecting the diversity of MSU’s student community. Traditional dances such as Nepali, Assamese, Arunachali, and Newari were performed alongside semi-classical and fusion presentations. The performances by the University’s Music Skill Drill students and the university band, The Troopers, captured the energy of the new batch and showcased the university’s emphasis on holistic development.
The university also celebrated a milestone achievement—its national recognition as the 4th-ranked university in the Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2025. This moment of pride was commemorated with a felicitation ceremony and the screening of a documentary tracing 13 years of MSU’s journey, achievements, and contributions to skill-integrated education.
Speaking on the achievement, the Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor and Co-Founder of MSU lauded the dedication of the university’s faculty, staff, and students. “India’s future lies in the aspirations of its youth,” he said. “At MSU, we are preparing students not only to seek jobs but to create them. As we move towards a Viksit Bharat, our students must strive to become job-givers, innovators, and contributors to the nation’s progress.”
The most awaited moment of the event was the keynote address delivered by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim, Justice Biswanath Somadder. In his address, he urged students to view education as a responsibility toward society.
“Education is not simply about acquiring knowledge; it is about cultivating integrity, empathy, and responsibility,” he said. “Institutions like Medhavi Skills University are building a generation of students who are equipped with intellectual capability as well as practical skills—qualities that will benefit both the workforce and society.”
The post-lunch sessions shifted focus to student engagement. Ice-breaking activities were organised for the new batch to encourage bonding and teamwork. Motivational addresses by School Heads and the Office of Student Affairs offered clarity on the values and expectations at MSU. The Foundation Programme, designed to help students transition into university life smoothly, was also introduced.
