In a major breakthrough against the rising drug menace in Sikkim, Temi Police Station officials carried out a successful operation at Dalep in Namchi district, leading to the seizure of a commercial quantity of contraband substances. The bust, which took place earlier this week, has once again highlighted the seriousness with which Namchi District Police are pursuing the fight against illegal narcotics in the region.

According to credible sources, the contraband was being transported in a vehicle bearing registration number SK 06 Z 0114. The vehicle was intercepted during a routine but well-coordinated checking drive, following prior intelligence inputs. Inside the vehicle, police discovered a large stash of controlled substances that fell well within the “commercial quantity” category under law, a term that implies a significant amount capable of causing major social harm if circulated in the market.

The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Roshan Rai (31 years), son of Late Mohan Rai, resident of Tikjuk, Gyalshing. Along with him, two others were also arrested from the vehicle: Prakash Rai (41 years), son of Late Kamal Rai, resident of Tikjuk, and Bishal Rai (35 years), son of Bijya Kr Rai, resident of Boom Bara Samdong, Kaluk. The three accused were immediately taken into custody, and preliminary interrogation has already begun to ascertain the source of the contraband and its intended destination.

Police have registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA). Officials confirmed that strict provisions of law will be applied, and further investigation is underway to identify possible links with wider trafficking networks.
