Amar Subba, popularly known as the Marathon Man of Sikkim, has once again brought pride to the Himalayan state after successfully completing a 12-hour run in Mumbai on the eve of Independence Day. Subba, who was invited as a special participant by the organisers of the 12 Hours Mumbai Ultra Run, managed to cover an impressive distance of 76 kilometres at Shivaji Park.
The Mumbai Ultra Run is not a competition in the usual sense of sports. Instead, it is a unique event that combines the spirit of endurance with a strong social message. The annual run is organised mainly to create awareness about health, fitness and social responsibility, while also raising funds for important causes. This year’s run was dedicated to supporting the ImPaCCT Foundation at the Tata Memorial Centre, which works for the treatment and care of children suffering from cancer.
Subba’s participation stood out not only because of his sheer stamina and determination, but also because of the inspiration he carries wherever he runs. For many years, the 59-year-old runner from Sikkim has been promoting running as a way of life. He has already taken part in several ultra-marathons and long-distance runs across the country. His return to Sikkim after completing yet another challenging run has been met with admiration and appreciation from fellow runners, sports enthusiasts, and the general public.
