Manipur woman among victims of tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad

A tragic air accident shocked the nation today as an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off, killing at least 204 people. Among the victims was Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailakpam, a young woman from Manipur who was working as a cabin crew member on the ill-fated flight.

The Air India plane, which was carrying 242 people including crew members, crashed near the Ahmedabad airport in what officials described as a "take-off failure." According to early reports, the aircraft lost control during take-off and went down in a nearby residential area, causing massive destruction and fire.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the Indian Army, NDRF, CRPF, and Coast Guard all working together to recover bodies and search for survivors. So far, 41 people have been reported injured, and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik has confirmed that only one passenger, seated in 11A, has survived the crash. The survivor is currently under treatment at a local hospital.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu reached the crash site this evening and is supervising the relief efforts. He is coordinating with various agencies including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI), and local officials to provide all possible help.

Meanwhile, helpline numbers have been issued by Civil Hospital Ahmedabad — 6357373831 and 6357373841 — for families seeking information about passengers. DNA testing is also being carried out at BJ Medical College, and families have been requested to provide samples to help identify the deceased.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) confirmed that three MBBS students were among the dead. Another 45 students were injured but are said to be in stable condition. The flight was believed to be carrying a large number of students heading to London for academic purposes.
